I loved this book. It isn’t my usual stuff, but it was so worth it. Each chapter talks about another person that Ms. Ellis interviewed for her NPR production One hundred years of stories.

In the book she starts out with notions of traditional journalism. She wanted to stick to the facts, and see what each person had experienced over time. Her first interviews were not as successful. Over time she learned to let herself go. Some of her interviewees do more before noon than I do in a whole day. For instance, Anna Wilmont would get up each morning and row across a lake in the early morning and then at least once more in the late morning or early afternoon. One gentleman was still teaching law school.

The things they have seen and done are amazing. I am almost jealous at the simplicity and modesty the each possessed. If I should live as long as they do, I hope I will be as gracious and thankful too.

It is a quick read, but I recommend it for something a little different.
